Musician Miguel shares his outdoor HIIT training and meditation

While singer Miguel has a gym at home, his fitness routine doesn’t consist of lifting weights or using a rowing machine (although he still does these activities as often as possible). Instead, he feels more comfortable reconnecting with nature by walking long distances and performing modified training routines. Yes, this 35 year old singer is old school.

Miguel brought the Men’s Health crew on the trail to show his training plan back to nature. “It’s just about keeping your body busy and hopefully getting on with the rest of the day,” he says.

For the singer, exercising outdoors is more than just getting fit. Sure, he’ll have to work harder to modify his exercises – pull-ups on a branch or leaning on a table. But even though the heat is scorching and the sun is beating down on him, he has never felt so comfortable. “It’s a crazy world out there, with a lot of chaos on my mind,” he says. “And the training was [the] Number one defense for all that stuff. You know, I’ve arrived there, this is my place where I can just let go of everything. All of my frustration, all of the bad shit we all deal with every day so that I can do what I’m here for. ”

A key feature of Miguel’s training is that it is on the go. He uses a set routine, but he’s not rigid about it – sometimes he’s wearing a weight vest, sometimes he’s not. His mantra does what makes him, his mind, and his body feel good. “I don’t bring much with me,” he says. “It’s really just about creating a workout in a snap, you know? We are allowed to create. ”

And when the workout is done, what better way to relax and cool off than with guided meditation? “Meditation is a daily practice,” he explains. “After training you are very clear. You can just get into it, and when you’re done you can do any kind of Jiu-Jitsu all day long. ”

Miguel’s outdoor HIIT workout routine

Do each exercise for 30 seconds, then rest for 10 seconds. Repeat as desired for up to 3 total rounds.
