From new layouts to guided meditation exercises, Microsoft Teams, Viva receive updates for the hybrid working mode

Front Row features are slated to roll out later this year.

Microsoft teams: Microsoft is bringing an update to its video conferencing solution Teams with the aim of making hybrid work meetings more seamless. Teams Meetings and Microsoft Teams Rooms will both be updated, and Teams Rooms will be given Front Row, the name Redmond has given to an immersive new layout for the meetings. The aim is to make the interaction more natural and to strengthen the connection between in-room and remote members. In Front Row, the video gallery is placed at the bottom of the screen so that the remote participants are at eye level with the participants in the room – similar to a physical, non-hybrid meeting.

Additionally, Microsoft has decided to surround the main content of the meeting with other information related to the meeting, be it the conference agenda or the notes, while clearly displaying the meeting chat. New video layouts will also be introduced when no content is shared during the meeting, and this fall, teams will also have the ability to pin multiple video streams. Front Row features are slated to roll out later this year.

Microsoft has also partnered with Jabra, Logitech, Poly and Neat, the newest partner the tech giant for teams-related devices has gotten a better video stream. In addition, teams’ intelligent speakers would now also use the tech giant’s speech recognition technology to identify who is speaking among the room participants so that their names can be included in the meeting minutes.

The company has also chosen to integrate its Viva, Microsoft’s integrated platform for employee experience, into teams.

Additionally, by the end of the month, Redmond would add some guided meditation practice to Viva, for which it worked with Headspace. The company hopes that employees can relax if they feel overwhelmed or stressed or have to switch off after the workday.

It also adds a focus mode to Viva, so that timers and focus music help the worker during the employee’s planned daily focus time while also enabling planned breaks in between. This year itself, Viva would also offer users the option to configure a quiet time during which Outlook and Teams notifications would be muted.
